2020.11.26 17:01 autotldr Vote up to prevent execution of Swedish professor to be executed by Iran based on false charges!

This is the best tl;dr I could make, original reduced by 65%. (I'm a bot)
CENTER FOR HUMAN RIGHTS IN IRAN. Iran has dismissed an appeal by Sweden for it to not enforce a death sentence given to a Swedish-Iranian doctor, amid reports that his execution is imminent.
On Tuesday, Djalali's wife told Sweden's TT news agency that he had been transferred to solitary confinement in Tehran's Evin prison and told by the prosecution authorities that his death sentence would be carried out imminently.
"In light of reports that Iran may have planned to enforce a death penalty against the Swedish citizen Djalali, I have today spoken with Iran's foreign minister Zarif," Swedish Foreign Minister Ann Linde tweeted on Tuesday afternoon.
"Sweden condemns the death penalty and is working to ensure that the sentence against Djalali is not carried out."
Two months later, Iranian state television also aired what it said was footage of Djalali confessing that he had spied on Iran's nuclear programme for Israel.
In December 2018, Djalali's lawyers said Iran's Supreme Court had upheld his death sentence without granting them the opportunity to file defence submissions.

Syria’s military reports that in the second such assault in a week, Israeli warplanes bombed locations south of the capital, Damascus. A story by the Syrian state media, citing an unidentified military official, said the fighter jets were soon targeted. “The Zionist enemy launched an air raid from the direction of the occupied Golan Heights to southern Damascus at precisely 11:50 pm, resulting in “material losses,” the source was cited as saying. At least eight pro-Iran militia fighters were killed, contributing to the attacks targeting the weapons depot and the position held by Iranian forces and their Lebanese ally, Hezbollah.
The nationalities of the deceased were not identified straight away. The air strikes attacked a military base at Jabal Mane Heights near the town of Kiswa, where Iranian Revolutionary Guards have long been embedded in a rugged region nearly 15 km (9.3 miles) south of the center of Damascus, military defectors said. The region has anti-aircraft missiles which are deployed along the border with Israel to protect the Golan Heights. The Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) said earlier that Syria’s air defenses had responded to the incoming missiles. SANA and Syrian Al-Ikhbariya TV sources said Israeli warplanes hit a village in the province of Quneitra on the edge of the Golan Heights and in the southwest of Damascus, the capital. They didn’t give any specifics.

2020.11.26 16:02 autotldr Israel soldiers shoot dead Palestinian driver at checkpoint

This is the best tl;dr I could make, original reduced by 38%. (I'm a bot)
Israel soldiers have shot and killed a Palestinian man at Al-Zaeem checkpoint, which separates an illegal Jewish-only settlement in the occupied West Bank from a neighbourhood that lies in occupied East Jerusalem.
According to Al Jazeera, Nour Shuqir, from the town of Silwan in occupied East Jerusalem, was accused of attempting to flee an inspection at the checkpoint, hitting and lightly injuring an Israeli border officer.
The moment Israeli soldiers shot dead a Palestinian man, identified as Nour Shuqir, after an alleged car-ramming attack at a checkpoint in the occupied East Jerusalem.
Earlier this month, a Palestinian motorist was shot dead by Israeli soldiers who claimed he fired a pistol at the Huwara military checkpoint at the entrance of Nablus, in the occupied West Bank.
The Palestinian Red Crescent said in a statement that the Israeli army prevented its medics from accessing the scene and providing first aid to Rawajbeh after he was shot, and that his body is in Israeli custody and could not immediately be retrieved.
A number of local and international human rights groups have raised concerns that Israeli security forces have used excessive force when confronting Palestinians suspects.

2020.11.26 13:00 autotldr Flydubai launches first scheduled Dubai-Tel Aviv flight

This is the best tl;dr I could make, original reduced by 71%. (I'm a bot)
Budget airline flydubai on Thursday launched direct flights to Tel Aviv, the first scheduled commercial service between the two cities, following the normalisation of ties between the UAE and Israel.
The United Arab Emirates in September signed a US-brokered deal to formalise relations with Israel, the first such agreement by an Arab state in the Gulf.
With their economies hard hit by the coronavirus pandemic, the UAE and Israel are hoping for rapid dividends from the normalisation deal, including an influx of tourists as Dubai enters its winter high season.
The UAE became only the third Arab country to normalise ties with Israel, following Egypt in 1979 and Jordan in 1994.
The agreements shattered a long-standing Arab consensus that there should be no normalisation with Israel until it reaches a comprehensive peace deal with the Palestinians.
Several Gulf Arab states have for years been quietly building relations with Israel on the basis of shared animosity towards Iran, with the US supporting the process.

2020.11.26 09:00 autotldr Nael Al-Barghouti, 41 years in Israeli jails

This is the best tl;dr I could make, original reduced by 47%. (I'm a bot)
Today, 63-year-old Nael Al-Barghouti from the village of Coper on the outskirts of the West Bank city of Ramallah, entered his 41st year in Israeli prisons, the Palestinian Prisoners' Club said yesterday.
According to the PPC, Al-Barghouti was arrested by the Israeli occupation in 1978 and spent 34 consecutive years in prisons until he was released in a prisoner swap deal struck between the Palestinian resistance and Israel in 2011.
"If there is a free world, Nael would not have remained in prison for 41 years," his wife, Aman Nafe', said.
Born on 23 October 1957, Al-Barghouti was arrested for the first time in 1978 and handed a life term plus 18 years in prison.
Israeli occupation authorities refused to release him in prisoner swaps until 2011.
On 18 June 2014, ignoring their obligations under the prisoner swap, Israeli occupation authorities rearrested him and sentenced him to 30 months in jail.

2020.11.26 08:49 TheKlorg Denying Reality and Israel-Palestine

Again and Again I hear from the “Pro-Palestine side” that Jews are not from Israel, and Palestinians are from Palestine. Therefore, Jews cannot be in Israel.
Palestinians are Arab. Arabs are from Arabia, this is a pretty agreed upon fact.
*Ashkenazi Jews have been tied to Israel, Mizrahi Jews of course, and one would assume Ethiopian Jews follow the same structure. Israel was literally called Judea.
Telling me I’m not genetically the place I’m from because I look white is something you’d never say to Linda Sarsour, and is extremely anti-Semitic. No stop. That isn’t me shutting down criticism of Israel, that’s reality.

TIMELINE: Farewell, Chechnya.

Russian Forces claim victory over the ashes as the Chechen Insurgency falls.

May 20, 2051
WRITTEN BY
Anthony H. Cordesman
Arleigh A. Burke Chair in Strategy
"Discretion was never a common word among the Russian Military."
 -Clive Hamilton
BATTLE
The opening shot was fired on the 2nd of March, however preparations had been clearly underway among the Russian military for sometime. While the Chechen leadership had seven years to prepare, the overall lack of preparations or ability to gain much more equipment as eyes turned to the region in crisis became far more clear.
While the Chechens had come into a large amount of foreign equipment, much of it Israeli in make - they ultimately lacked the air power to contest against even the aging Russian Air Force, which simply held more firepower than the Chechens could fight off. The devastating Russian Air Campaign quickly knocked out the captured Armored Train of Baikal which the Chechens had managed to capture several years ago - while also forcing the Chechens back from the larger open swaths of land in favor of the cities and mountains of the Grozny-Dagestan area.
While Chechen Commanders - showcasing an unusual level of conventional combat experience managed to put up a solid fighting retreat, the conquests which had been pried from Russian hands quickly and resoundingly fell back into the hands of the awakened bear. While calls for Death or Freedom continued to resound among the Chechen Forces, they rapidly had to switch to Plan B. insurgent warfare. In the eyes of the Chechen Commanders, they would once again make the Russians bleed.
Russia would bleed in the forests and in the fields, they would claim. Russian blood would be spilt in every mountain and every forest, a Russian soldier would die for every building and ten to every street. However, the brutality of the first War for Grozny would never come to fruition.
Because the brutality would be on a level far worse.
Discretion has never been a common word among the Russian Military, and whether out of desperation or an unwillingness to risk Russian lives - they chose the metaphorical nuclear option.
Excerpt from Russian Command Memo
The brutal house to house fighting in the urban terrain will be streamlined by indiscriminate bombing of any structure suspected of containing enemy troops, as well as a sanction to carpet bomb cities using the Tu-95 will be granted shall house-to-house fighting becomes too costly or slow, commanders to use at own discretion.
End Excerpt
By the time Russian forces had reached Grozny, it was a literal shell of what it once was. Surrounding cities and the broader Russian South had seen one of the most devastating refugee crises in its history as hundreds of thousands of displaced Russian citizens fled the coming slaughter as insurgents took up residency in cities. The first cities to fall by the hands of Tu-95 bombings had been Nalchik and Pyatigorsk, reduced to rubble as the lack of Russian discretion showed its true colors.
As civilian and insurgent casualties alike began to mount, some hesitation began to build among the low-level Russian soldiers - however their fear of dying ultimately outweighed any humanitarian considerations as the push to Grozny continued. However, Grozny would prove to be less of a fight than expected as the clear destruction had led to mass surrenders on the Chechen side. The same would be true in Dagestan, although this did not ultimately stop the Russian Air Force from levelling the city of Grozny, perhaps for security concerns - or perhaps to send a message.
With the vast majority of Chechen leadership captured, the Russian Military was finally able to claim victory and control over the Russian South, although they claimed victory of the self-created ashes.
CURRENT SITUATION
Despite once again having control over the Russian South, the destruction and humanitarian crisis has been immense as hundreds of thousands of refugees flee into Georgia, Ukraine, and into Central/Northern Russia (Moscow). Likewise the sheer civilian casualties, expected to be around 50,000-120,000 total has caused a new crisis in Moscow as they struggle to placate angry civilians over the death of what was ultimately fellow Russians.
The refugee crisis has only compounded this as displaced refugees protest against Moscow for the destruction of what has been a region that has already suffered so much.
Moscow has yet to respond to the economic and civil destruction of their operations, meanwhile Brazil has taken flack for assisting in the destruction.
At the same time, it has been leaked that Russian Intelligence has possibly confirmed that Israel (Balearic Islands) had been the instigating factor in the Chechen war. However more details have yet to be revealed by the Russian Ministry of Intelligence.
MOD NOTE
  • CASUALTIES
  • Russian Forces
    • Air Force: 1% Attrition largely from upkeep and maintenance issues.
    • Army/Ground: 8% Attrition
  • Brazil Forces
    • Army: 4% Attrition
  • Chechens
    • Army: Surrendered.
    • Command: Surrendered
Furthermore, Russia will need to contend with the following -
  • Economics: The Russian Economy has been hit hard by the civil war, with the destruction of much of the South along with the refugee crisis severely hurting an already struggling economy.
  • Civil Crisis: The civil crisis over the indiscriminate bombings has reached Moscow. Roughly 100-200k protesters alongside another several hundred thousand refugees to now deal with.
  • Cities: Several major cities in the South now destroyed. Must be rebuilt.

2020.11.26 07:03 nimroddd Is the conflict even solvable?

I'll start with that I see myself as an Israeli that leans towards the left side of the map. I believe in 2 states solution. I acknowledge that current and past actions by Israel are seen by the Palestinians, and other countries in the Arab world as crimes, and I hope that one day we can put the past behind us.
One headline caught my eye this week. It wasn't a huge story, and not directly connected to Israel-Palestine, but eventually it is. The Israeli singer Omer Adam is currently in UAE, and took a selfie with a known Egyptian pop star, Mohamed Ramadan. Israel's official twitter account posted the picture, celebrating the co-exsitance. Ramadan started to get threats on social media, making him apologize for taking part in such picture, and denying that he knew that he was taking selfie with an Israeli:
https://www.jpost.com/israel-news/egyptian-singer-will-go-to-court-for-snapping-a-selfie-with-omer-adam-650042
Beyond that - He will face a trial for taking this selfie, and this is with a country we have peace treaty with!
I know that a majority of the Egyptian people are not willing to any normalization with Israel, and I can only guess it is even double in Gaza & The West Bank. I'm also sure that there are people who are willing to live side by side with Israelis, but when in Israel it's a majority that supports normalization, the support for normalization on the other side is extremely lower. Now, it's pretty clear that Israel isn't going to dissolve, but will the Palestinians (as I was talking about the Egyptians now) will be able to acknowledge that, or we're just stuck in a never ending conflict that people from both sides won't be happy with living side by side?

2020.11.26 06:23 pregadorchuck The Problem With Gene Editing From nRNA "vaccines" like Pfizer and Moderna

In order for you to return to the old "normal" you are placed in the crossroad of a dilemma. Will you be willing to receive gene editing, for free, in order that you may be certified as a "safe" individual to participate in social, group and public nature gatherings?
If you are willing to go through the gene editing, you may find that you will gain the freedom that you wanted but you will end up losing something much bigger in this trade of buying (personal perceived freedom, for however durable it may be) and selling a gift.
The Book of Revelation in chapter 13 has predicted a pandemic age as today where a problem is created and a perceived solution is pushed to society to buy back something that is robbed from them. When the advancement of genetic technology and science dictates a solution to suppressing a new virus, or two, or three, and it involves having you human genes edited to have a different signature, which by the way is irreversible, you have to ask yourself if you are in full agreement with this exchange and transaction. The gene editing injections may propel to a future world with non-human abilities. But the transaction also means you will be disqualified from a far future after the Second Coming. The Son of Man came to seek that which is lost. And the Kinsman Savior saves only the kind of His own (humans).
Christina Lin explores the technological side of a novel method to deal with fighting a novel virus in gene editing.

Gene-editing, Moderna, and transhumanism

AUG 5, 2020, 11:28 PM
As gene-based mRNA vaccines from Moderna are being designed and tested at warp speeds to fight Covid-19, this is also bringing the debate over transhumanism into the forefront.
Transhumanism is a type of futurist philosophy aimed at transforming the human species by means of biotechnologies. Transhumanists see disease, aging and death as undesirable and unnecessary, and aim to transform human beings into post-human species with greater capacities than those of present human beings.
The philosophy is based on secular humanism and sees human nature as an evolutionary work-in-progress with room for improvement and enhancement. However, it is more radical in that it promotes not only traditional means of improving human nature such as education and cultural refinement, but also direct application of medicine and technology to overcome basic biological limits.
Transhumanists give special attention to genetic engineering, robotics, molecular nanotechnology and artificial intelligence, and the Covid-19 pandemic is providing gene-based vaccines a chance to break through into the global health market.
Moderna and gene-editing
Currently there are various companies such as Inovio, Moderna and CanSino Biologics that are testing mRNA and DNA vaccines to counter SARS coronavirus-2 (SARS CoV-2) which causes Covid-19, but Moderna is the front runner that recently nabbed $472 million from U.S. government’s Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority (BARDA) to develop the vaccine. This is in addition to the $483 million it had already received back in April, bringing its total funding to $955 million.
With U.S. government funding at nearly $1 billion for one company, Moderna may be too big to fail. However, this is perplexing for a company that has never produced a single vaccine. According to a CNN report, Moderna was only established in 2010, has never brought a product to market, nor gotten any of its nine or so vaccine candidates approved for use by the FDA.
However, it has been a long-term Pentagon contractor for biodefense, working closely with Defense Advanced Research Project Agency (DARPA) on gene-editing and mRNA therapeutics. DARPA is focused on developing emerging disruptive technologies to maintain a competitive edge over adversaries, including many ‘transhuman’ projects such as genetic engineering and soldier enhancement via robotics.
In the case of Moderna and mRNA therapeutics, DNA vaccines is considered a new paradigm that would disrupt the pharmaceutical industry. Its vision is to harness a new technology that synthesizes messenger RNA, or mRNA—which is an instruction manual in every living cell for creating protein—to prompt the human body to make its own medicine.
So instead of injecting a piece of virus into a person to stimulate the immune system, the synthesized genes would be shot into the body whereby the genes are edited, deleted, added, to re-engineer human DNA to resist the disease. If successful, scientists hope DNA vaccines could be a “transformative” treatment for heart disease, metabolic and genetic diseases, kidney failure and even cancer. Moreover, it could be an effective form of biodefense to protect the population against biological warfare, which is also the mandate for DARPA and BARDA.
Transhumanism and hybrids
Indeed, DARPA is also developing other forms of human enhancement in addition to gene editing. Already scientists are merging robotics with the human body in brain-to-computer interface (BCI), wherein individuals with physical injuries can regain their functions, and soldiers become smarter and more powerful through the fusing of their brain with machines.
In a way, the Pentagon is now building real iron man similar to the American superhero based on the Marvel Comics character. Soldiers in exoskeleton suits are physically more powerful than those without, while other soldiers with bionic limbs perform better than adversaries with human limbs. When one adds artificial intelligence with BCI, the sky is the limit for an army of these genetically modified and robotically enhanced humanoids.
But U.S. is not the only country engaged in human enhancement and transhumanism, as Russia and China are also in hot pursuit with exoskeletons, vaccines and brain implants. As this competition gains traction, one wonders what the future of their militaries may look like as human beings are steadily integrated with machines to become armies of iron man.
Here the Book of Daniel may lend some insights. In interpreting King Nebuchadnezzar’s dream of an image with a head of gold, chest and arms of silver, belly and thighs of bronze, legs of iron, and feet of iron and clay, Daniel revealed the parts as the sequence of world empires, with the feet of iron and clay being the last.
In Daniel 2:43 it is written, “as you saw iron mixed with ceramic clay, they will mingle with the seed of men; but they will not adhere to one another, just as iron does not mix with clay,” that seems to describe a hybrid of man (clay) mixed with machine (iron). And as transhumanism and biotech gain momentum, armies of hybrid humans of iron and clay may be a real possibility in a not too distant future world.

2020.11.26 06:01 autotldr Netanyahu, UAE leader nominated for Nobel Peace Prize

This is the best tl;dr I could make, original reduced by 35%. (I'm a bot)
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's office said Tuesday that he and Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Zayed have been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize for their work to normalize relations between Israel and the United Arab Emirates.
The prime minister's office said the leaders were nominated by David Trimble, the former First Minister of Northern Ireland who won in 1998 for his work on the Northern Ireland peace process, Bloomberg reported.
"Pursuant to the rules of the Nobel Prize Committee, since Lord Trimble is a Nobel Peace Prize laureate, his decision to submit Prime Minister Netanyahu's candidacy will lead the committee to discuss the issue," Netanyahu's office said in a statement Tuesday.
Netanyahu would be the third Israeli prime minister to receive the honor if he wins.
Menachem Begin won in 1978 with Egyptian President Anwar Sadat for a U.S.-brokered peace treaty.
Yitzhak Rabin shared it with then-Israeli President Shimon Peres and then-Palestinian Liberation Organization leader Yasser Arafat in 1994 for their work on the Israel-Palestine peace process.

2020.11.26 05:01 autotldr Intelligence firm Black Cube ordered to pay £350,000 to Israeli TV show

This is the best tl;dr I could make, original reduced by 57%. (I'm a bot)
A British court has ordered the private intelligence firm Black Cube to pay £350,000 in costs to an Israeli investigative television show after withdrawing a high-profile £15m libel lawsuit against the media group.
Court documents filed in the high court of justice Queen's bench division show that Black Cube was ordered to make the "Interim payment" to pay for the costs of Keshet Broadcasting Limited and five of the group's journalists.
A spokesperson for Black Cube said: "The company, according to the recommendation of its English lawyers, has decided to discontinue its defamation claim in the UK against Uvda for a documentary which they broadcasted more than one year ago."The company has been advised that since its income in the year following the broadcast has increased, the argument that the company has suffered financial loss because of the broadcast has fallen away.
At an earlier hearing, it was reported, lawyers for Black Cube had argued that England and Wales was an appropriate jurisdiction for the case to be heard because one of its founders and many of its clients are based in the UK.The libel case was reportedly filed by Black Cube in the UK after the investigative TV show aired a segment in June 2019 that alleged that one of Israel's richest men, the tycoon Idan Ofer, had hired the firm in 2014 to investigate the then-finance minister, Yair Lapid, and other officials.
Black Cube has previously been named in media reports alleging that the company has worked to discredit US officials who negotiated the Iran nuclear agreement.
Details about the arrangement were alleged during the trial, including that the law firm Boies Schiller had signed a contract with Black Cube at Weinstein's behest.

2020.11.26 05:00 spookyghost_13 A CIA and British Paper referring to different versions of the XM1 as well as the M1 '79 and comparisons with contemporary vehicles.

The first source is from a CIA paper from 1982. the link is here https://www.cia.gov/library/readingroom/docs/CIA-RDP85T00757R000100080007-6.pdf
"One version of Abrams turret is 400mm vs ke" is in reference to a past prototype because sometime around 77-78ish once the US and everybody else found out that the Soviets were using 125mm guns for their 72s and 64s instead of the anticipated future version of 115, the armor was modified to withstand M735 apfsds which was capable of penetrating 410 mm vs KE and maybe a prototype version of m774 depleted uranium apfsds which entered service in 1980 and was capable of penetrating 440 mm vs ke. Most likely, the M1 '79's armor package was redesigned around just defeating the M735 as that could best simulated 125mm Soviet ammunition at the time.
The British study in the second link:
https://forum.warthunder.com/index.php?/topic/415044-a-review-of-the-xm-1gm/
which was from 1978) recommended that the future variants of M1 be resistant to a hypothetical future Soviet round capable of penetrating 450 mm vs ke. However, we don't know which prototype this was referring to because there was a Chrysler and a General Motors Abrams prototype. This British study also rated an Abrams prototype's frontal protection at 340 mm frontal protection. We do not know whether this is in reference to the turret or glacis.
The British and CIA papers may either be in reference to the same vehicle or to different prototypes. After all, there were two Abrams prototypes. There was the General Motors prototype and the Chrysler prototype (which was modified to become the '79 production vehicle). If they are in reference to the same vehicle, we get 400mm for the turret and 340mm for the glacis. However, it is most likely they are not in reference to the same vehicle as the Chrysler xm1 was the one that was chosen to be modified to become the '79 Abrams.
However, we should assume the vehicles mentioned by the CIA and British are at 30 degrees for simplicity's sake although they don't really specify.
Thus, the CIA paper is most likely in reference to the Chrysler XM1 and the British paper to the General Motors XM1.
Also, other figures show that at 60 degrees , the Abrams '79 is 375 mm vs apfsds (assuming this is talking about the turret). At 30 degrees (which is the US standard) , this would be increased to 525 mm.
Also, the reason I come to the conclusion with the 30 and 60 degrees is because the early 1990s Swedish trials on an exported A2 which did not have depleted uranium and just had Chobham rate the A2 at 600mm at 30 degrees and 700mm at 20 degrees (The 600mm figure at 30 degrees can be seen in the 3rd image). I mention this because the Swedish trials A2 basically had the same armor as the pre-HA A1.
The other reason I come to this conclusion with the degrees is because at 60 degrees the M1A1 (pre HA) is 450 but at 30 degrees, the A1 (pre HA) is 600 (The 600mm figure I get from Zagola who used Soviet estimates as well as the aforementioned export A2 figure that is shown in the 3rd picture).
Soviet estimates for the M1 '79 give it 470 mm for the turret and 490 for the glacis.
The 470mm figure would be more accurate for the glacis due to the fact that using the 30 degrees, the turret would be 525.
Thus, judging from this compellation of information, for the '79 M1, we get 525 mm vs ke for the turret (at 30 degrees) and 450-470 mm vs ke for the glacis.
However, we could assume the heat protection is still 750 for whatever prototype the CIA is referring to as well as the '79 production run vehicle because the heat protection was designed around being proof against the sagger atgm.
The US could have gotten captured saggers from Israel for testing as there are US army training videos from 1976 where an actual sagger atgm is demonstrated.
However, the '79 production vehicle's heat protection may have been increased to simulate future Soviet atgms such as konkurs. If so, than it would have been tested against the ITOW which was introduced in 1978.
Soviet estimates for the 'M1 '79 at 650 vs heat would also be more accurate for the glacis as well.
The HEAT protection for the M1 '79 should be 750 for the turret and 650 for the glacis.
The '79 Abrams would have used 3 kinds of ke ammunition throughout it's service run
  1. the M833 ke round which was capable of penetrating 490 mm rha at 2 kilometers which was introduced in 1983
  2. the M774 which was capable of penetrating 440mm rha and was introduced in 1980
  3. the M735 which was capable of penetrating 410mm rha and was introduced in 1978
How does this compare to contemporary vehicles as of 1979/1980,
The Leopard 2 '79 would have had 400mm vs ke for the turret at 60 degrees which translates into 550 vs ke at 30 degrees. It would have used DM13 which was capable of penetrating 470mm vs ke at 2 kilometers.
The 1980 Challenger 1 prototype would have had 500mm vs ke on the turret and 275 on the glacis. It would have used L-15 apds which was capable of penetrating 390mm rha vs ke at 2 kilometers.
The T-80 would have had 500mm vs ke on the turret and 450 on the glacis according to the CIA 's Soviet Tank Programs which was published in 1984. It would have used 3BM 122 which was capable of penetrating 440mm rha vs ke at 2 km. It would have used a turbine engine.
As of 1979/1980, the Leopard 2 '79 would have had the best kinetic energy round out of the contemporary vehicles and slightly better turret armor than any of the other vehicles mentioned.
The T-80 would have had the second best ke round out of any of the vehicles. However, the T-80's engine was vulnerable to catastrophic explosion which was demonstrated in Chechnya in the 1990s.
These problems were mainly experienced in urban combat environments versus rpg wielding infantry and wouldn't not be as much of an issue in a tank vs tank engagement where it would be much harder for tanks to get around each other because of the advanced fire control systems each of these vehicles uses.
The Challenger would have had the worst kinetic energy munitions with an improved round not being introduced until 1985 (this improved round being the L23 which was capable of penetrating in the 400s.). The L-15 wouldn't even be able to harm the T-80 or any of these vehicles from the front. It would have also had the worst glacis armor.
The Abrams would have had the second worst ke round because the M774 had just been introduced in 1980 and the M735 would have been the standard load for an Abrams in 1979/1980.

Nov. 25, 2020.Updated 8:08 p.m. ET.Iran released a British-Australian scholar, Kylie Moore-Gilbert, detained since 2018 on charges of spying for Israel, in a prisoner swap conducted Wednesday for three Iranian men described by Iran's official media as businessmen who had been held abroad.Iran did not reveal the identities of the three citizens it said had been swapped for Ms. Moore-Gilbert nor the identity of the country or countries where they had been held.
Television footage from the prisoner swap shown on state television in Iran on Wednesday showed one of the men in a wheelchair.
The three Iranian men, draped in Iran's flag, were seen passing through the door and greeted with flowers and leis to chants of praise for the Prophet Muhammad.Ms. Moore-Gilbert was shown leaving the building via the same door and boarding a minivan with her bags for an unknown destination.
Iran has a long history of detaining foreign citizens and dual nationals on bogus charges of espionage and swapping them for Iranians incarcerated abroad - particularly those charged with helping Iran violate sanctions.
Iran's foreign minister, Mohammad Javad Zarif, said in September that Iran was ready to swap more prisoners with the United States, but he has repeatedly rejected the accusation that his country takes hostages as political pawns and has said the judiciary is independent.
Iran sentenced Dr. Jalali to death on charges of spying for Israel, and his family and lawyer in Iran have expressed alarm that he faces imminent execution.

which was from 1978) recommended that the future variants of M1 be resistant to a hypothetical future Soviet round capable of penetrating 450 mm vs ke.
